Thanks for reading China Twenty-One!
This is a personal online project by April Fong, a Chinese-Canadian journalist whose graduate research at Fudan University focused on Chinese nationalism in 2008 and the role of Chinese diaspora. China Twenty-One is a continuation of her study.
For many in China and Chinese people all around the world, feelings of national pride are abundant. China’s ‘Century of Humiliation’ is in its distant past and the country has rapidly risen in importance in the world, playing host to the 2008 Beijing Olympics and now the Shanghai World Expo.
China Twenty-One tells stories about Chinese national pride and identity in the 21st century, in order to examine current developments in popular Chinese nationalism. The blog was launched on May 1, 2010, the first day of the Shanghai Expo.
